How We Began
The Early Years (2010–2015)
The story of Gurdwara Prabh Milne Ka Chao Meditation Society began in the living rooms of a small group of Sikh families living in Southwest Edmonton. In the early 2010s, as Edmonton’s Sikh population grew rapidly—particularly in neighborhoods like Windermere, Heritage Valley, and The Hamptons—many families found themselves driving long distances to the city’s older Gurdwaras in the north and northeast.
A small group of devotees began gathering in basements and community halls for Sunday prayers. What started with 10 families soon grew to 20, then 50. The longing for a local spiritual home became impossible to ignore.
Finding Our Home (2015–2018)
In 2015, the group formally registered as a non-profit society under the name “Gurdwara Prabh Milne Ka Chao Meditation Society.” The founding committee—a group of seven dedicated volunteers—began searching for a permanent location.
After three years of fundraising, prayers, and searching, they found the perfect location at 2414 Ashcroft Crescent SW. The property, previously a community hall, was purchased in 2018 with the help of donations from over 200 families and individuals.
Opening Our Doors (2019)
In January 2019, with the blessings of the community and the grace of Guru Granth Sahib Ji, the Gurdwara officially opened its doors. The first Prakash (installation) ceremony was attended by over 300 people—a full house.
Since that day, the Gurdwara has never closed its doors. Even during the COVID-19 pandemic, while the Darbar Hall was closed for gatherings, the Langar kitchen continued operating, delivering thousands of free meals to seniors, frontline workers, and families in need.
