About Gurdwara Prabh Milne Ka Chao Meditation Society
A Sanctuary of Peace, Meditation, and Selfless Service in Edmonton, Alberta
Our name, “Prabh Milne Ka Chao,” carries a profound meaning. In Punjabi, it translates to “The Longing to Meet the Divine.” This sacred longing is the heartbeat of everything we do. Every meditation, every prayer, every meal served in Langar, every act of Seva (selfless service)—all of it flows from this single desire: to connect with the Divine and, through that connection, to serve humanity.
Located at 2414 Ashcroft Crescent SW in Edmonton’s thriving southwest community, our Gurdwara is more than a building. It is a living, breathing spiritual home for Sikhs, seekers of all faiths, families, students, newcomers to Canada, and anyone searching for peace in a chaotic world.
We welcome you. Not as a visitor. But as family.
OUR MISSION & VISION
What Drives Us Every Day
Our Mission
To provide a sacred space where individuals from all backgrounds can:
- Practice meditation (Naam Simran) and experience inner peace
- Engage in selfless service (Seva) and find purpose through giving
- Study the wisdom of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji and apply it to modern life
- Build a loving community (Sangat) that supports each other through all of life’s seasons
Our Vision
A world where every person, regardless of faith, race, or social status, knows they are loved by the Divine and has access to:
- Free, nutritious meals through Guru Ka Langar
- Guidance for meditation and spiritual growth
- A compassionate community that catches them when they fall
We envision Edmonton as a city where no one goes hungry, no one feels alone, and every person has the opportunity to experience Prabh Milne Ka Chao—the sacred longing that transforms ordinary life into a spiritual journey.
OUR NAME & MEANING
The Story Behind “Prabh Milne Ka Chao”
Many people ask us: “Why such a long name? What does it mean?”
The phrase “Prabh Milne Ka Chao” comes from the Sikh tradition of deep devotion. Let us break it down:
| Word | Meaning |
| Prabh | God, the Divine, the Creator |
| Milne | To meet, to unite with, to merge into |
| Ka | Of |
| Chao | Longing, yearning, passionate desire |
Together: “The Longing to Meet the Divine”
This is not a passive longing. It is an active, burning desire—the way a fish longs for water, the way a lover yearns for the beloved, the way a lost child searches for their parent.
Our founders chose this name because they wanted every person who walks through our doors to be reminded that spirituality is not about empty rituals. It is about cultivating a genuine, heartfelt longing for connection with the Divine. And from that longing flows every act of love, service, and compassion.
“Jin prem kiyo tin hi prabh paiyo”
“Only those who love, find God.”
— Bhagat Kabir, Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji
