Stories from Our Members
“This Gurdwara Saved My Life”
— Harjinder S., age 52
“I lost my job during COVID. Then my marriage fell apart. I was depressed, isolated, and thinking of ending my life. A friend brought me to this Gurdwara. I didn’t want to come. But the moment I walked in, I felt something I hadn’t felt in years—peace. The meditation sessions gave me a reason to wake up. The Langar volunteers gave me a place to belong. Today, I am a volunteer myself. I serve Langar every Sunday. This Gurdwara didn’t just save my life. It gave me a new one.”
“My Children Found Their Identity Here”
— Amandeep K., age 38
*”My husband and I grew up in Punjab, but our children were born in Canada. They didn’t speak Punjabi. They didn’t know anything about Sikhism. We were worried they would lose their heritage. Then we found the youth program at this Gurdwara. Now my 10-year-old plays harmonium. My 14-year-old volunteers in Langar. They are proud to be Sikh and proud to be Canadian. This Gurdwara gave my children their roots.”*
“I’m Not Sikh, But I Feel at Home”
— Margaret T., age 67, Catholic
“I live alone in a condo near the Gurdwara. One winter day, I fell on the ice outside my building. A volunteer from the Gurdwara saw me, helped me up, and walked me home. She invited me to Langar the next day. I was nervous—I knew nothing about Sikhism. But everyone was so kind. Now I come for meditation every Tuesday. I still go to my Catholic church on Sundays. But this Gurdwara has become my second spiritual home. The meditation has helped my anxiety more than any medication ever did.”
